Free access Mainstage Saturday daytime thanks to Outlaw PR

We are delighted to say that, as part of our commitment to make the Blues available to anyone and everyone, and in partnership with Outlaw PR, the doors to the Main Stage, on Saturday between 1pm and 6pm, will be thrown open to the public for free gigs by Bare Bones Boogie Band, Forty 4 and Makuini & The Hoodoo Men.

Outlaw, which is run by musician Clare Free, specialises in PR and radio plugging for blues, roots and Americana musicians.  The agency, which is based in the UK, works not only with DJs and press in the UK but on mainland Europe and further afield too.

When Clare established Outlaw she did so because she believed there was a need for top quality PR at musician friendly prices.  Traditionally PR is very expensive and often beyond the reach of musicians who have invested all their money in their newest CD.  Clare set about changing this and Outlaw has been very busy since it started in 2012.

This is a job that Clare hugely enjoys.  Each article or piece of airplay for a musician brings a smile to her face. “Its so rewarding to see an artist get the recognition they deserve” she says.

“I am passionate about helping musicians.  I have been in their shoes and know how hard it can be.  Releasing an album and really getting people to hear it is an art form and many musicians need a hand with it, that’s what I do.”

Outlaw has seen some pretty big names join the roster in the last year, Mitch Laddie, Virgil and the Accelerators, Rosco Levee and the Southern Slide, The Bare Bones Boogie Band and more.

What the HBBF organisers say...
We have dealt frequently with Outlaw since it started, both as an organisation and as individuals, and have always found Clare both professional and tenacious, as well as good fun.

We are delighted to be partnering up this year and are sure that the acts Clare has selected will blow the socks off the audience.

I'm looking forward to taking a deep breath and diving straight into a cutting edge, award winning Festival with the Country's Best Blues and Roots Artist's. The Festival has such a glow about it that it precedes itself, I can't wait to play and meet an audience that loves the Blues as much as Hebden Festival does – let it roll!

Fantastic range of quality blues, with sultry vocals, rocking guitar, blistering harmonica and a strong rhythm section.

To write and perform our own modern blues

If the act was an animal or bird, which would it be?
A proud lion

What the others say
"I was delighted to meet the band who travelled all the way from West Yorkshire to debut here in Chorley at BJ’s. This five piece band really delivered the goods a mixture of classic blues covers. The lovely Sheila Mac took centre stage with her sultry subtle blues delivery and has been recognised for her vocal renditions within the music business by recently being an inductee into the Blues Hall of Fame as Great Blues Artist. The FLOOD the bands new original single is an excellent number and shows the many skills the band has, I was impressed in that they had only been together for two years such is the bands understanding and feeling the groove. Talking of feeling the groove step forward Ian Scaife a great harmonica player a nugget of a find he was brilliant, his playing of “ On the road Again” by Canned Heat was spot on and “Down in the Dirt” by Nine Below Zero was exceptional. The rhythm section was the backbone throughout the entire performance Craig (Boom) Jackson on a cracking bass guitar and on the skins John (Razor) Sharp and lastly the man on lead guitar with his riffs and flicks and effects was Geoff Waddington a compendium of talent from him. The covers the band performed were from Junior Wells, Big Mama Thornton, Lucille Bogan, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore and Koko Taylor, the list went on – marvellous stuff. This honest blues band earned their corn they were better than terrific."
